Tim Hortons UK: You’ve Always Got Time for Tim Hortons

November 27, 2021

Tim Horton’s now has 52 store locations in the United Kingdom.

Friday, June 2, 2017 was a big day for Tim Hortons. That’s the day the first Tim Hortons opened in the United Kingdom on Argyle Street in Glasgow, Scotland.

Where it all started…
Tim Hortons was founded in Ontario in 1964 by the Canadian ice hockey player, Tim Horton and his partner, Jim Charade. Their first foray into the fast-food business was with a string of hamburger restaurants that didn’t fare too well. Charade, who had previously operated some donut stores, persuaded Horton that donuts and coffee could be a great business.

By the late 1960s, Tim Hortons had become a subsidiary of Restaurant Brands International which also owns Burger King and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. Today, there are approximately 5,000 Tim Hortons in total, with locations in Canada, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Philippines, Qatar, Mexico, Spain, China and Thailand.

Tim Hortons, UK
When Tim Hortons opened in Glasgow in 2017, it was to long line-ups of Scots who were eager to sample Canada’s famous coffee and doughnuts. Tim Hortons UK was, indeed, a success! In October 2020 Tim Hortons UK and Ireland announced their plans to open a Tim Hortons in every major town and city by 2022.

The pandemic which started in 2020 caused most businesses to suffer. However, the demand for drive-through dining during that period increased dramatically. Britain’s 2,000 quick-service restaurants offering drive-through serviced 121 million visits, a 14 percent increase over the same three-month period in 2020.

Brits can now enjoy Tim Hortons® premium coffee, hot chocolate, tea, soft drinks, freshly baked doughnuts and other baked goods, delicious sandwiches and wraps, soup, chile and more.

Tim Hortons, going strong in the UK!
