The Brick Ltd. is a Canadian retailer of furniture, mattresses, appliances and home electronics.


There are 219 The Brick Canada locations in Canada.

Brothers John, Fred and Bill Comrie founded The Brick Warehouse LP on September 1, 1971, in Edmonton, Alberta.

The company’s first expansion was to Fort McMurray, Alberta in the 1970s. In 1975 it acquired the Bad Boy Furniture chain of 40 stores in Toronto, Ontario.

In March 2004, the company acquired the United Furniture Warehouse which, at the time, had 81 locations across Canada. In 2006, 24 stores were rebranded as The Brick in an effort to increase sales and save on advertising costs.

In November 2012, with shareholders’ approval, Leon’s acquired The Brick for $700 million. Leon’s maintains the two chains separately.

In July 2017, The Brick re-branded all of its United Furniture Warehouse and The Brick Clearance Centres into a new branding called The Brick Outlet.

Some interesting facts about The Brick. . .

1976–The first warehouse opens.
1982–First expansion outside of Edmonton to Fort McMurray
1988–The Brick celebrates Team Appreciation Day at the West Edmonton Mall’s Waterpark with The Beach Boys as their special guests.
2004–The Brick expands into Quebec, opening five stores and a clearance centre on the same day.
2013–Leon’s acquires The Brick and, together, they become Canada’s largest furniture retailer with stores located in every province.
2018–To reduce its carbon footprint, Leon’s diverts 70 percent of its waste from landfills, saving the equivalent of 75,7542 trees and 659,928 liters of oil.
2021–The Brick turns 50!
