In 1919, a gentleman by the name of Jack Cohen began selling surplus groceries from a stall in East London. In 1924 he bought a shipment of tea from a Mr. T.E. Stockwell. Mr. Cohen came up with the idea to take the intials Mr. Stockwells initials, T.E.S., and combine them with Co, the first two letters of his surname, giving birth to the Tesco brand. And the rest, as they say is history.

Today, Tesco is proud to report that Finest* and Everyday Value are now the two largest food brands in the UK.

With Tesco’s newest service, Click and Collect, shoppers can order groceries on-line and choose a pick-up time that works best for them. Collection is currently available at 320 locations, with the number of collection points growing all the time.
