Proxim: everything you want in a pharmacy and more.

April 1, 2023

The name Proxim, also known by its corporate name, Groupe Essaim and Gestion Santé Services Obonsoins Inc., was inspired by the word proximity to describe the group’s great accessibility to pharmaceutical care.

Proxim Pharmacy has 259 locations in Canada

Proxim is a Canadian group of 259 pharmacies located primarily in Quebec with a few locations in Ontario and the Maritime provinces.

In August 2004, two companies, Groupe Essaim and Gestion Santé Services Obonsoins Inc., regrouped to form Groupe PharmEssor. The merger included three pharmacy chains: Essaim, Obonsoins and Santé Services. The three chains remained separate from one another until February 2006, when PharmEssor consolidated all of its operations under a single banner, Proxim.

All Proxim pharmacies are independently owned and operated in compliance with Proxim’s business rules and practices.

The average Proxim drug store is 4,000 square feet (370 m2).

Proxim is headquartered in
Saint-Léonard, Québec, Canada.

In 2007, Proxim created the Proximed banner and 31 selected locations operate today under that name.

Proxim’s private label is called Atoma. With every Atoma product, you can expect the same effectiveness and active ingredients as other major brands, but at a significantly lower price tag.

On July 1, 2008, Proxim was acquired by McKesson Canada. In September 2017, McKesson Canada completed its acquisition of Uniprix. Both Uniprix and Proxim are headed by the same president, Alain Arel. Proxim and Uniprix function as separate chains of McKesson.

Proxim offers services that go beyond prescriptions. For example, it can customize your prescription, and test you for diabetes, heart and respiratory ailments as well as for Covid-19. The Proxim pharmacist can also provide vaccinations for Covid-19, flu, travel and more.
