In-N-Out Burgers: good old-fashioned hamburgers and fries!
Founded in 1948 by Harry and Esther Snyder, In-N-Out Burger is an American chain of fast food restaurants.
If you live in, or are travelling through, the American Southwest or the Pacific coast, you are, undoubtedly, familiar with In-N-Out Burger. The chain, which is currently headquartered in Irvine, California, has expanded throughout California and into Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Texas and Oregon. Harry and Esther Snyder’s only grandchild, Lynsi Snyder, is now the owner of In-N-Out Burger, which is, today, a multi-billion dollar empire.
All about In-N-Out Burger
Harry Snyder, just recently back from WWII service, was working in the kitchen of a Seattle, Washington, catering company. What happened next was, as they say, meant to be. His future wife, Esther, was managing the dining establishment; they met and, the rest is history. Harry proposed and Esther said, “yes.” They married and moved back to Harry’s home town of Baldwin Park, California where they opened their first In-N-Out Burger drive-thru restaurant.
In-N-Out Burger was the first drive-thru hamburger stand in California. When the Snyder’s opened it up, customers could drive right up and order their meal on a two-way speaker.
Harry and Esther worked long hours to offer their customers only the best quality food available. Unlike other fast food restaurants which used frozen fries and pre-made burger patties, the Snyders prepared hand made burger patties from fresh beef and cut the potatoes, themselves, for the french fries. To complete and already perfect meal, they offered milkshakes made from real ice cream.
The company remained a relatively small southern California chain until the 1970’s, with the Snyders managing the restaurants to ensure the highest quality. When Harry Snyder died in 1976, at the age of 63, the chain had grown to 18 restaurants.

In 1976, Harry and Esther’s 24-year-old son, Rich Snyder, became the company president. Under his leadership, In-N-Out Burger experience rapid growth throughout the next two decades. Both Rich and his brother Guy had begun working in their parents’ restaurants at an early age, so they were well prepared to take over the chain after their dad passed away. Together, the brothers expanded the chain to 93 restaurants. It was after opening the 93rd location that Richard Snyder and four other passengers died in a plane crash in Orange County, California.
Following Rich’s death, his brother Guy assumed the presidency and continued to expand the In-N-Out chain. Sadly, Guy died in 1999 and his mother took over the presidency.

In-N-Out pays its employees more than state and federally mandated minimum wages, with a starting salary of $ll USD per hour in California in 2017. The chain has been rated as one of the top fast food restaurants in a number of customer satisfaction surveys and maintains a loyal customer base.
As the chain has expanded, it has opened several distribution centers in addition to its original Baldwin Park location. The new facilities, located in Lathrop, California; Phoenix, Arizona; Draper, Utah; and Dallas, Texas will provide for potential future expansion into other parts of the country.[4][5][6]
