Home Hardware–Only in Canada, eh?
Last Updated on August 13, 2018
Home Hardware stores are as Canadian as Beavertails.
Headquartered in St. Jacobs, Ontario since its opening in 1900, Home Hardware stores are fixtures in small towns across Canada, even as far north as Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory.
Privately Owned Wholesale Company
As a “privately-owned wholesale company,” each Home Hardware dealer acts as a shareholder with an equally weighted vote. Each store keeps its own profits, and the headquarters team works hard to keep costs low. And, Home Hardware is 100 per cent Canadian owned and operated.
Market Share in Canada’s Home Improvement Sector
The four major players in the home improvement arena are in a tight race for the top market share, with Home Depot at 15 per cent; Lowes at 13 per cent; Home Hardware at 12 per cent; and, Canadian Tire at 11.5 per cent (sales of hardware and home improvement products only).
A Great Place to Shop, Great Place to Work
Home Hardware has ranked first for best in-store shopping experience under the Hardware category for retailing, according to a December 2017 study compiled by Leger, which surveyed 20,000 Ontario residents. Home Hardware ranked first with the top index of 73.1, with the lowest scoring competitive index at 52.
Home Hardware Stores Limited has also been designated one of Canada’s Best Corporate Cultures and Best Managed Companies. More information about the company is available at homehardware.ca.
In celebration of National Tree Day, Home Hardware Stores Limited and Tree Canada (a not-for-profit organization) worked together this fall at 16 locations across Canada to plant and look after mature trees.
