Goodlife Fitness Centres Inc. is the largest health club company in Canada, with 197 locations.

In 1979, David Patchell-Evans of London, Ontario, had a serious motorcycle accident that resulted in multiple broken bones. Following a long rehabilitation period, he began to work out at a local gym which, ultimately, he purchased.

In addition to the 197 clubs under the GoodLife Fitness brand, the company also owns and operates a number of other fitness companies including Fit4Less; Éconofitness in Quebec; Revo Fitness in Australia; and CityFitness in New Zealand.

GoodLife also owns the yoga and Pilates-focused Oxygen Yoga & Fitness clubs with 100 locations in North America.

In 2007-2008, GoodLife purchased the Alliance and Family Fitness club chains and in 2009 the company acquired Nubody’s family of clubs in Eastern Canada. That same year, GoodLife Fitness partnered with a Quebec chain known as Energie Cardio

The year 2012 showed more expansion when Goodlife acquired seven independently operated Gold’s Gym locations in Canada, with locations in Alberta and Ontario.

In 2013, GoodLife acquired Extreme Fitness Inc., a leading operator of fitness clubs in the Greater Toronto Area and the surrounding region. This acquisition brought the total number of GoodLife Fitness Clubs in the Greater Toronto Area to 82.[15]

In June 2021, the founder and head of GoodLife Fitness, David Patchell-Evans, was inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame. This honour came 42 years after opening his first gym in his hometown of London, Ontario. With more than 1.5 million members, GoodLife is the fourth-largest fitness chain in the world.
