El Pollo Loco

El Pollo Loco, Spanish for The Crazy Chicken and pronounced L Po-yo Loco, serves authentically prepared flame-grilled, citrus-marinated chicken. Yummm-eee!

El Pollo Loco was founded by Juan Francisco Ochoa in 1974 in Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico. In 1980 he opened the first US El Pollo Loco on Alvarado Street in Los Angeles.

Authentically prepared Mexican food
What’s not to love about flame-grilled, citrus-marinated chicken, with freshly prepared ingredients? That’s what the folks in Los Angeles, California thought when El Pollo Loco came to their neighbourhood.
In fact, the tantalizing aroma of the grilling chicken caused folks to line up around the block waiting for their turn to taste this uniquely prepared Mexican food.

With its warm and welcoming ambiance combined with an outstanding menu and perfectly prepared dishes, the restaurant quickly became a favourite throughout California.

El Pollo Loco‘s chickens are marinated in their own secret recipe of herbs, spices, fruit juices and garlic. The whole chickens are then fire-grilled, hand-cut, and served with their chicken meals, burritos, salads, soups, tacos and quesadillas. How can you improve on that? With their handmade guacamole, salsas and dressings, of course.

In 1991 El Pollo Loco opened its 200th restaurant and by 1993, it had introduced six new burritos and lunch sales went through the roof.

New ideas, such as the self-serve salsa bars, added in 1994, kept the customers coming back time and time, again.

In 1995, El Pollo Loco built a 3,112 foot long burrito, the world’s largest, earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Built in Anaheim, California, this amazing burrito weighed two tons (that’s 4,000 pounds).

Beyond the food, the annual Grill Master Competition
El Pollo Loco‘s 1,400 cooks compete annually for the title of Top Grill Master. What great incentive to keep striving to be the best!

El Pollo Loco cares about their communities
The restaurants reach out to their communities by volunteering in their local neighborhoods, running Fire-Grilled Fundraisers, and supporting those in need through their EPL Charities partnerships.
