In 1917 Jerome Schottenstein founded Schottenstein Stores Corp. The Designer Show Warehouse was founded in 1969 as Shonac Corporation, as the shoe licensee for Value City, an American discount department store chain with 113 locations. Jerome’s son, Jay, joined the business in 1976.

In July 1991, the company opened its first Designer Shoe Warehouse store in Dublin, Ohio.

In 1998, the DSW was acquired by Value City and by 1999, the company had 48 stores.

On March 19, 2019, Designer Show Warehouse
changed its name to Designer Brands Inc.

Since 1980, Jay has served as chairman of American Eagle Outfitters, Incorporated.

In 1993, following his father’s death in March of 1992, Jay replaced his father as head of Schottenstein Stores Corporation. Since 2005, he has served as chairman of DSW.

Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) prides itself on its vast selection of stylish, comfortable and affordable shoes and accessories for the whole family.

Designer Brands also operates a 150 of retail outlets in Canada, including DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse, The Shoe Company and Shoe Warehouse, all of which offer quality footwear for the whole family.

In 2018, the company acquired Camuto Group, the renowned product design and brand development organization. The alliance revolutionized Designer Brands into one of the largest footwear companies in North America.

A public company since 2005, their stock is traded on the New York City Stock Exchange as DSW.
